Police celebrate boy’s birthday after no one RSVPs to party

NORTH PORT, Fla. (AP) — Police in Florida went above and beyond by surprising a boy at his eighth birthday party after no one responded to his invites.

News outlets report Daniel Nicastro’s parents say this wasn’t the first time no one has called to say they were coming to their son’s party in North Port. The Nicastros say making friends is difficult for Daniel, who has autism.

So his parents decided to invite the police officers, who Daniel considers “superheroes,” to the party.

They were hoping a few officers would show up, but instead, an assembly of officers arrived, even bringing gifts.

God bless each and everyone of those police officers. Children with disabilities need friendship and love too.

Agreed.

May these heros live long and wonderful lives. However the folks who don't even have the courtesy to say thanks but no thanks, you are pathetic.

Cops are the good guys. Contrary to some FReepers' opinions.

And, as for people not showing up to B-Day parties...happens in our neck of the woods all the time, especially this time of year. (Onnly one kid showed at WBill Jr's party last year, about this time, and Jr. has been the only kid to show at a handful of others....). It's the time of year, people are travelling, school is letting out, lots of things happening, etc etc etc.

But, "It's my party and no one came" works the pity angle nicely. More important that the cops showed and kid still had fun.

Thanks for posting something that made me smile. Too many stories these last few days making me either sad or angry. This is a nice break from that.

While the story had a happy ending (thanks to the police officers), I think the parents should re-think the birthday party strategy. Kids may be sad that they don't get a party; but they are probably even sadder when their parents throw a party and no one comes.

Shame on the parents of the kids who did not go or RSVP.

I sometime joke that it’s not a party until the cops show up, but in this case, it’s actually true!

Great story, here’s another one I never got around to posting,..

Schenectady PBA buys grave marker for murder victim Sha’hiim Nelligan, 8
Paul Nelson | June 15, 2016

EXCERPT:

More than three years after he died at the hands of his grandmother, Sha’hiim Nelligan’s grave finally has a proper marker.

Schenectady Police Benevolent Association President P.J. Mullen said Wednesday that the PBA learned from a civilian police department staff member that the boy’s grave didn’t have a marker at Park View Cemetery. The employee knew about this because her grandfather is buried near Sha’hiim.

After learning about the need, Sgt. Adriel Linyear, a city police spokesman, contacted the Nelligans and got their blessing. The PBA executive board voted unanimously to purchase the marker. It did so in November at a cost of several hundred dollars.

In 2013, Gloria Nelligan, who was caring for her 8-year-old grandson, was convicted of murder and manslaughter.

Prosecutors say she tortured Sha’hiim over two days in February 2013 inside the family’s Mynderese Street home to teach him a lesson about the wrongs of stealing gum from a store and then failed to get him medical help until it was too late.

“Any time a child is a victim of crime, especially murder, it’s touching,” Mullen said. “It’s the least we could do as a police department to honor him.”

The flat rectangular gray granite marker is emblazoned with the Superman logo and reads: “SHA’HIIM M. NELLIGAN

This story makes me want to cry.

Trying to convince the college age pukes and race baiters that these police officers were doing this out of their hearts, instead of their favorite past time of hunting for “unarmed” black men to shoot, is a waste of time.

This is the saddest and happiest story of the day.

You nailed it.

America is great because America is good, as de Tocqueville said in 1835.

Nice of the cops, but you have to wonder why this kid had no takers. Even if all the kids he knew hated his guts, usually some parents force their kids to go anyway.
