Michelle Obama and her daughters Sasha and Malia Obama are leaving dad behind, this summer, and heading overseas.
The First Lady and her teenagers – along with grandmother Marian Robinson – will travel to Liberia, Morocco and Spain at the end of June and into early July as part of the Let Girls Learn initiative, the White House said in a press release, Wednesday. Throughout the trip – which includes stops in Monrovia, Marrakech and Madrid – Obama will speak to young girls about the importance of education and staying in school.
First stopping in Liberia on June 27, Obama will visit a Peace Corps Training facility where young women are participating in a Girls Leading Our World camp. She will also take part in a discussion moderated by actress Freida Pinto, which will cover the educational barriers girls face in the country. President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf will meet with the First Lady.
Next, in Morocco, Meryl Streep will help Obama and Pinto discuss the challenges women in the African country deal with on a regular basis.
Finally, on June 30, Obama will deliver a similar speech in Spain about Let Girls Learn's efforts and meet with Queen Letizia before heading back to the United States.
Let Girls Learn is a government initiative aimed at helping girls obtain a quality education. Obama has employed star power to promote the initiative in the past, creating a special anthem with the help of singers like Kelly Clarkson in March.
The exciting trip closely follows Malia's graduation from Washington, D.C.'s private Sidewell Friends School.
Malia won't be leaving home just yet, though, as she deferred attendance to Harvard until fall 2017.

Sickening how People Magazine treats this like a such fun girly thing to do...when it is (another) excuse for a five-star vaycay, costing us taxpayers millions.
I guess it’s one last hurrah on the taxpayer’s dime, before they actually have to start paying their own tab.
So to justify an extended and lavish taxpayer vacation they will chat in a couple of classrooms on the importance of girls in other countries staying in school? Wow, that’s a good use of our money.
Anyone have a list of vacation trips outside the US, by past presidents wives???
The importance of staying in school....So Malia is deferring for a year to romp around the world....in some real crappy, dangerous places.
Now all they need to do is make up some legitimate excuse for Meryl to represent an obscure government program.
That way there won’t be any questions as to why we the people are footing the bill for another freeloader.
In real life, if you take the company plane on a cross country junket there are income tax consequences.

Doesn't sound like an eager young person with a fire inside them to pursue their passion/career. Instead, she's gonna chillax for a year of luxury.

Congress should nip this in the bud and immediately issue legislation that would halt this ‘in your face you pitiful Americans’. Your nation goes down the drain while we frolic with a white Hollywood biggie on a hundred million dollar vacation!
A thrill of a lifetime for them. A lifetime of digging out from under the rubble caused by electing a phony, unknown foreign exchange student as president.
This is beyond uncouth!
Thus making it a government sponsored and paid for trip. They will return with loads of 'souvenirs' all duty free and more than likely also cost free. Grifters and leeches. Begone!
traditionally the first lady has one or maybe two full-time assistants.
Hillary was a statistical flyer with four full-time aides.

part of the reason is probably because of America’s Legacy:
no white person especially in DC wants to walk up to the first black First Lady in US history and say, “Hey, you have too many staff, and traditionally, you people work for us not the other way around...”

BUT~ Her bad ones far outnumber her good ones. The latest, a trip to the glorious fun resort of Libya, Morocco, etc, the first example on the bad list. The top countries on any bucket vacation list would be these land masses.

I guess if I knew of or was planning a war, I'd get my family out of Dodge first.
