The Left is attempting to paint the Orlando massacre as primarily an attack on the gay community, made possible by easy access to guns. That is, according to the Left’s narrative, homophobia and gun violence are the ingredients that lit the fuse. Typical of this distorted way of thinking was the New York Times lead editorial on June 14th, which claimed the United States was being “terrorized again – and again, and again, and again – by the uniquely deadly combination of twisted hatred and weapons of mass destruction as easily available as cough medicine.”
This gross oversimplification plays down the role of ISIS-inspired jihad in fueling the massacre. The shooter, Omar Mateen, pledged allegiance to ISIS, drawing on its strict interpretation of sharia law to justify his rampage.

The Obama administration is busy worrying about restrooms.
It isn’t a failure to connect the dots per se, it’s a purposeful dereliction of duty.
It’s similar to total refusal to enforce immigration laws over X number of years, then claiming that the system is broken, now comprehensive immigration reform is the only solution that remains.
However in this case, it’s a total refusal to track obvious terror suspects, combined with rapid importation of potential terror suspects in order to create the conditions necessary to foster violent mass murders to push their gun control agenda.
What we are seeing is Fast and Furious 2, but it’s being done inside hits country as opposed to within Mexico.
Manufacture a crisis, empower yourself to solve it, implement the agenda.

It goes beyond failure to connect the dots. They actively erase the dots and add new ones they want to connect with (guns, NRA, Christians).
The blood of all these people is on Obama and everyone in the FBI who interacted with him and their "investigation", refused to connect the dots and let him go... numerous times.
The FBI has no excuse, they had all of the information and warnings necessary but REFUSED TO ACT UPON IT.
