Top conservatives meet at secret dinner to discuss Cruz's future
The Hill ^ | 6/15/2016 | Jonathan Swan

Posted on 06/15/2016 3:42:55 PM PDT by lodi90

Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) attended a confidential dinner with more than 20 top conservatives on Tuesday night to plan his comeback as a movement leader in the mold of Ronald Reagan.

The dinner was at the Virginia home of conservative activist Brent Bozell, and the agenda was to plot Cruz’s future and the future of the conservative movement. The undertone of the dinner was about how to position Cruz for a future tilt at the presidency and to spearhead the conservative movement from his seat in the Senate, those in attendance said.

Dining with Cruz and his chief of staff, Paul Teller, were some of the most powerful figures in the conservative movement.

The spectrum of economic, national security and social conservatives seated at the table included Heritage Foundation President Jim DeMint, Club for Growth President David McIntosh, direct-mail guru Richard Viguerie, National Rifle Association board member and former Cincinnati Mayor Ken Blackwell, and Susan B. Anthony List President Marjorie Dannenfelser, sources confirmed.

According to those in attendance, the leaders discussed how they could work more effectively together and how to harness their vast financial and human networks in the service of conservative principles and Cruz's career.

Combined, those at the table have access to hundreds of millions of dollars and some of the largest ground armies on the right.

There was no specific discussion of electoral politics or whether Cruz will support presumptive Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump this cycle.

Many of the leaders at the dinner want Cruz to run for president again, and they are viewing Cruz’s unsuccessful 2016 run as similar to Reagan’s failed attempt in 1976 to unseat the incumbent Republican president, Gerald Ford.

Cruz needs to head back to the Hill and fight the RINOs.

These career politicians who call themselves conservatives ARE ALL TALK AND NO RESULTS!

And the party leadership manipulates the votes on certain bills when certain members are up for reelection.

It is a game and it is called 'hoodwinking the voters'.

For a principled conservative supporting Trump is like nailing jelly to a tree.

"Principled conservatives" don't allow the murderess of Glen Doherty, Sean Smith, Tyrone Woods and J. Christopher Stevens to reach the White House... under ANY circumstances.

Cruz is not going to get another shot. Trump will get 8 years and the endorse his VP for the next four.

As the group was sitting at the table a voice could be heard under the table and in between Cruz’s legs. It was Houson radio talk host Michael Berry. “My knees are starting to hurt, mmmph, mumps”.

Is he still bashing Trump? I haven't listened in months after he flat out said on TWO different occasions that Trump went to "pedophile island" with that pervert (what's-his-name? Not Clinton, but the owner of the island).

He's dead to me and I hear he's lost a ton of listeners as well as customers at his private club. The Club4Growth/Soros money must be good or you'd think he would've dialed it back.

I was talking about Trump. He’s the one running for President now.

You made the unforced error of painting Cruz as a principled conservative being supported by principled conservatives (half of whom are known RINOs) versus a "liberal" Trump. It means you're either stupid or uninformed. Whatever the case, you shouldn't be publishing your opinions online.

My problem with Cruz is that he didn’t strike me that he would be an effective leader. His views were perfect in many things, but that doesn’t do any good, if he cannot deliver. I think it is because he came off as preachy that I doubt his ability to lead.

Who are these conservatives?

Good question. So we had 49 Americans killed in a terrorist attack a few days ago. And now the kenyan is on the warpath, Senate Dems are going all in to filibuster gun control to distract for Hillary, etc. And beltway “true conservatives” feel like this is a good time to have a cocktail party to discus Ted Cruz’s political future? Insane. This is why they call it the stupid party.

I supported Cruz also. But Cruz jumped the shark multiple times during this campaign. Then there is the whole Canadian citizenship thing. Better to have him as a federal constitutional judge on some level.

So are they coming to Cruz and offering him all the wealth in the world to be their leader?

Or is he coming to them to try to salvage his career?

Are they already talking about running him for president again?

Or is it more about what will become of what's left of movement conservatism?

I don't know.

I can see now that whoever wrote the article is trying to make it all about a future Cruz run for president, but really, these guys have enough on their plate right now without worrying about that.

Cruz may not even have a Senate seat or a career by 2020. He's got plenty of chicks to hatch before he can start counting them.

It’s going to take a long time to clean the ‘BECK’ off him, and then that Crazy Crazy Fiorina thing.

When you watch that video of Carly falling through the stage you suddenly realize God has told you something important.

He is rather 150% in the tank for Cruz isn’t he. I thought we were going to focus on defeating Hillary. Used to really like Mike but he’s on my time to “change the dial” list now.

He’s still got 20 years, God willing. For a first run in a transformative election year, he did pretty well. Learn from his mistakes and he’ll do fine in the 2020s.

Cruz has shown his true colors. He was a NWO/GS/CFR neocon Trojan horse from the beginning.

I sincerely hope the good people of Texas vote him out.

NO kidding he makes me SICK now. He has lost a lot of voters. If he wanted a future as POTUS he would have not been such an a**. He might have gotten VP and been set up. Wait till this “Conservative movement” lands at my doorstep-it will not be pretty.

For all the so-called "true conservatives" out there still sulky and sore that Li'l Marco, Lyin' Ted and/or Yeb! won't be in any effective position to inundate us with still greater and greater amounts of professional leaf blowers and future muzzie terrorists, over the next few years:

I wouldn’t even want this rat on the supreme court. If he’s inellible— and I believe that is definitely the case—he shouldn’t be sitting on the supreme court where he might have to rule on immigration matters. Cruz also has stated in the past, before his flip flop this year, that he believes birthright citizenship is totally constitutional. He’s not trust worthy and says things for political reasons. He would make supreme court decisions in the same way, probably spend his time writing books and giving speeches.

If that’s you’re only critique of Cruz and his candidacy, you need to wake up and smell the coffee. He’s so fake it hurts. He and Heidi need to stay as far away from the WH as possible.
