With the tax burden at all levels and the cost of living and the micro interest rate people receive on savings (which is also taxed!) it's amazing that anyone can have significant savings at all. Not to mention the capital gains taxes on investments. Frankly, I'm sick of all of the so called investment counselors and money gurus trashing Americans for not saving money. The average American with an average income plus family to take care of has enough trouble making ends meet much less "saving" money for let's see: emergencies, college for the kids, retirement etc.

Thanks Democrats & Republicans for the wonderful economy you've created and all of those terrific taxes and fees and regulations you've imposed on Americans while you secretly become multi-millionaires while "serving" the public in Congress and the government.

Excellent post.

Just a week or so ago Drudge had a headline about “record tax collections” for the last quarter or year. And then a link about Congress spending beyond that number.

A nice chunk of my earnings were in that “record tax collection” and as always, it set me back. We are being taxed, inflated and regulated to death and all the happy talk about “living below your means” begins to crumble when your means are confiscated through taxation and devalued through inflation. You can only limbo so low before you find yourself flat on your back.

Thank you for stating this! I’m sick and tired of hearing this crap and frankly it’s mostly bull shit from these smart people who made average income but somehow have their house payed for and five million dollars in the bank. I call bullshit. About ten years ago I bought a nice vehicle, not new but nice I financed it for five years at a very favorable rate. Every year that vehicle was financed I paid more than the entire price of the vehicle every year in taxes. One for me, five for government. Now tell me where the problem is again?

Add up all the fees and taxes plus increase of costs because of regulations. If I could save 20% of that........
