Actually this is the end result of the Euro. Socialist policies existed in these low producing countries because the government could just print money. Guarantee 5% a year raise, even though GDP is stagnant? No problem just print 5% more money every year...
Once the Euro became the currency this option no longer exists for them so to keep the policies going their only choice was to borrow. Eventually they could not borrow any more and the Eu forced austerity on them and their policies. Which of course the public doesn’t like since its been having a cushy lazy ride for generations.. So end game they lash out at the socialist party that was in power the whole time.
