Obama unleashes on GOP critics over 'radical Islam' term

After years of brushing off criticism for avoiding the term “radical Islam,” President Obama fired a point-blank broadside Tuesday at his critics, calling the debate a “political distraction” that will do nothing to combat terrorism.

Speaking from the White House during what was expected to be an update for the public on the fight against the Islamic State, Obama lit into his critics and specifically presumptive GOP presidential nominee Donald Trump. Their criticism has mounted in the wake of the Orlando terror attack, which Obama declined to publicly link to radical Islam.

“Calling a threat by a different name does not make it go away. … There’s no magic to the phrase of radical Islam,” Obama countered Tuesday. “It’s a political talking point.”

The president faced swift pushback from Republicans on Capitol Hill.

“With all due respect Mr. President, you’re wrong," Sen. Ben Sasse, R-Neb., said in a statement. "Telling the truth about violent Islam is a prerequisite to a strategy – a strategy you admitted you don’t have. It is the Commander-in-Chief’s duty to actually identify our enemies and to help the American people understand the challenge of violent Islam.”

The ‘magic’ of the term ‘extremist’ is it can be used against radical islamist AND against Obama’s political enemies - - conservatives.

That’s the reason ...

A single violent Muslim (or even a dozen consecutive terrorist Muslims) does not represent Islam.

But a single violent Muslim with a gun (no matter how many use knives and explosives) represents the typical law-abiding gun owner.

Oh, yeah.

He was so angry, he could barely spit the words out. He’s never been that angry after Ft. Hood, San Bernardino or Orlando, or the other terrorist attacks. All his anger was reserved for Trump. Trump has to keep hitting both 0bama and Hillary with all the heavy artillery he has, and pound them into emotional rubble.

Giving the people group a NAME, then allows us to profile, and set up data base to recognize from WHENCE comes the attacks, and WHO. I don’t recall any AMISH on the list, or Buddhists, or members of the NRA. So, YES, giving things a definition, and making check marks to cultural groups just might help us reign in, and curtail, and slow down the attacks. In other words, why not allow the CHRISTIANS of Syria to come to the USA instead of Muslims. Barak doesn’t like it when his cover is being exposed. Wow. Got ‘em good.

Calling a threat by a different name does not make it go away...

This from the sage who instead of ISIS, calls the maniacs ISIL?

Obama cannot be this dumb and have a Harvard Law degree. Problem solving 101....you can't solve a problem unless you identify the problem. The problem is Radical Islamic Terrorism.

They're radical even for their religion, they're Islamic, and they're terrorists. To make them go away, all three aspects have to be dealt with.

duhhhh.....

Well, in defense of Obama, what these jihadist guys are doing is NOT Radical Islam.

It’s plain-vanilla Islam.

Barak is the only one out there that uses the word ISIL, an anti Israel term.

Exctly, It’s like saying ‘let’s not say the word cancer or even acknowledge it” How do you treat it? HBP? How do you treat it? He certainly loves to jump on the ‘Ban Gun’ statements? He doesn’t seem to mind saying that? He’s picking and choosing where to focus and using his same ol justification by trying to sound so sincere in doing so. It’s not sincere, it’s shameful.

Indeed. Trump’s speech was more of a strategy in 15 minutes than Obama has expressed as a strategy (let alone implemented as a strategy) in 7.55 years in office.
