Florida Rep. Alan Grayson used the aftermath of Sunday’s Islamic terror attack to claim AR-15 semi-automatic rifles can fire 700 rounds per minute.
Security guard Omar Mateen killed 49 people and wounded over 50 others during an attack on a gay nightclub — the worst mass shooting in U.S. history. Mr. Grayson, a Democrat, was asked about the massacre and soon turned his attention to the AR-15 rifle.

“If [Mr. Mateen] was not able to buy a weapon that shoots off 700 rounds in a minute, a lot of those people would still be alive,” the congressman said. “If somebody like him had nothing worse to deal with than a Glock pistol … he might have killed three or four people and not 50. It’s way too easy to kill people in America today, and we have to think long and hard about what to do about that.”
CNN’s Erin Burnett then replied, “You’re right about that.”
Conrad Close, the conservative editor in chief of American Crossroads, then offered $50,000 to the charity of Mr. Grayson’s choice if he accomplish the feat,

When things like this happen it NEVER matters WHAT a Democrat says, it only matters THAT a Democrats says. If he says something stupid the media will smother it and it will never be heard again. If it has a tiny bit of sense in it the media will make the Democrat look like Churchill.

An ar15 cant fire 700 rounds a minute. Even if it was belt fed somehow, it could not fire anywhere near that fast.

The guy at Virginia tech killed 32 people in 5 minutes with a Glock. This guy had 3 hours and he was a real jihadi. So no, the AR didn’t help him much.

Were the weapon converted to full auto, the cyclic rate of the M16, the military version of the AR15, is 750 rounds per minute. Every boot knows that. They also know that cyclic rate and actual fire rate are different things. Cyclic rate is a sort of theoretical, assuming the weapon had a continuous supply of ammo and that it would not overheat, which it most certainly would, at that rate of fire.
Now if you had a fully auto Glock, which this guy suggests is not as bad, your cyclic rate of fire may be as high as 1200 rounds per minute; again, theoretical assuming continuous supply of ammo and no overheating and that you could even hold the dang thing firing like that.
Guess he forgot that the top killer before Sunday was the VT shooting... the killer used a Glock 19 and Walther P22. He killed 33, not 4 or 5.

That’s a cyclic rate of fire arrived at by taking the time it takes to empty a standard 30 round magazine on full auto, dividing it into a minute, and multiplying the result by 30. It doesn’t consider either the time for magazine changes or the totally destructive heat buildup that would occur from such a rate of fire. When training troops to use belt fed full auto machine guns, the Army trains them to fire in three shot bursts to keep from melting the guns’ barrels.
That idiot Grayson must be thinking of Hillary Rotten Criminal, who can fire off 700 LIES per minute with ease.
As a shooter/trainer, I’ve been asked “how could he shoot so many people so fast.” Look for the video of Keanu Reeves going through a 3-gun exercise. I can play whack-a-mole all day long with a red dot holosight, a good carbine and a couple of 50 round drums or C-mags, I’ve played “war” (Army, local training facilities, “walk in the woods” exercises, kill houses), but I’m not as fast as he is; then there are guys like Jerry Micalek who is blazingly fast.
So the real question is, where did this shooter train? Did DHS give him the training? Saudi Arabia, most likely (he has a travel history) - anyone remember how the IRA terrorists would go to Libya for training as guns were outlawed in Ireland? - there’s no evidence anyone recognized him from local ranges and 3-gun is a pretty tight community plus he “only” bought the guns last week.
That’s the kicker. He didn’t OWN any guns, did he? Or were those cleared out of his apartment (it was OPEN when the police arrived hours and hours later).
The big question is who trained him? But no one’s asking these questions out loud.
I’ll just leave this here.
If it could and it can’t, the barrel would most like begin to drop.
