Nightclub shooter tied to radical imam who was an ex-gang leader

Nightclub murderer Omar Mateen was a follower of an imam who preached hatred of gays and who was recently released from prison — despite prosecutors warning that he had terror ties, according to a report.

Mateen took lessons in the Islamic religion from Marcus Dwayne Robertson, a former gang leader from New York who now lives in Florida and who has been accused of helping terrorists, FoxNews.com reported.

“It is no coincidence that this happened in Orlando,” a law-enforcement source told Fox. “Mateen was enrolled in [Robertson’s online] Fundamental Islamic Knowledge Seminary.”

Robertson, who the report said, “openly and enthusiastically preached against homosexuality,” spent four years in prison in Florida for weapons and tax-fraud, the result of his lying on tax forms about paying to send an associate to Mauritania for terror training, the report said. Federal prosecutors tried to tack on 10 years based on enhanced terrorism charges, but US District Judge Gregory Presnell decided to let him go in 2015 with time served. He was appointed to the bench in 2000 by President Clinton.

For the life of me I can’t figure out why we don’t charge these people under the RICO statutes. They have used these many times in the past against white supremacist leaders who incite their followers to violence.

If a violent message is being preached from a Mosque and one of the member’s follows the message; shut it down, seize it’s assets, seize the assets of the leaders of the Mosque, charge the leaders under RICO, level the Mosque and build a memorial to the victims of the violent crime perpetrated by the Mosque’s member.
