Yep. Mustang Shelby GT350 at around $50k tops 500hp. There are quite a few more models under $100k. But there’s a bunch of cars $30k - $40k with 300+hp that are plenty exciting too.

RE Yellow/Orange:
Ha!! I had that “mustard yellow” base on my Chevelle SS, with the black rally stripes. Without the stripes, it would have looked like crap... WITH the stripes, and the black drop-top, Holy cow, it was sweet.

It was beat-up... but it was MINE... my first bought-with-my-own-money car. 350 bucks from a fly-by-night corner lot car dealer.

Another really nice beast from that time frame was the ‘71 Buick GS-455. Absolute monster...

It’s funny, when you think of “Buick”, you DON’T immediately think muscle car...

Then you remember the GS-455... and the ‘85 Grand National... and the Wildcat...

That’s the thing about that time period - every American auto manufacturer had a muscle car, even AMC with their Javelin and AMX. Those bitches had 360s and 390s tucked under the hood...

It really WAS “the good old days”.. never thought I’d hear myself say that, but it’s true.

I look at these shapeless, personality-vacant aero-Jap-blobs that are all over the road these days, and they just ...suck. Plain out, flat out suck.

You’d see a Hemi Roadrunner coming down the street, or a 70 Nova worked, and you KNEW what it was immediately, and the growl under the hood told you it wasn’t f***ing around; it would melt the tires off the ass end.

Oh, there’s a few beasts out there now - Roush Mustangs, Camaros, CHallengers, Chargers, etc... and they’re sharp, handle well, corner well, straight-out-of-the-hole monsters... ..But WHO the hell can afford one?

I’ve had a LOT of cars in my lifetime - most of which, back in the day, all cost less than a grand each.

Shame that good things have to go away....

Shame a decent muscle ride costs a fortune these days too!

If you want to have some real fun, watch the Mecum Auctions, and the Barrett-Jackson Auctions on cable. They always have some amazingly restored cars from the 50’s & 60’s. I never miss either one.

RE Fortune:
And to think, the original idea behind the muscle car was for the ordinary working stiff to be able to buy a nice set of wheels that he could drive around town in and still bring home the mortgage money.

Lee Iacocca’s Mustang concept was brilliant...
