Somewhere I read a little about her childhood, and how her parents lived when she was small. Not a really normal, wholesome (oops, there I go, talking about "normal" and "wholesome") childhood.
There's a lot of that going around these days. "Transgender" is a currently fashionable way for young people to act out their unhappiness, so we'll be seeing more and more of it.
