Its 20years obsolete as it has no stealth features
Your comment is interesting. With satellites, human Intel, etc. is there really such a thing as “stealth”?. Maybe the Russians are going for solid force projection over longer ranges , survivability and a very strong missle and gun hitting power instead.
We have exactly one stealth ship that’s overweight, over budget and was so cost-cut in the end that it isn’t actually stealthy. Meanwhile, the few other new ships we have are made to a 60s/70s design and have far less stealth materials (no radar absorptive materials, no IR exhaust suppression) integrated into their structure than this Russian class.
Something to think about.
The Russians have always favored that heavily raked bow.
It’s a highly modified Krivak. Then again, how many American designs are based on the 1970s Spruance class Destroyers? The Kidd Class, now operated by Taiwan, and out Ticonderoga Class cruisers are built on modified Sprue-can designs.
Emphasis on highly
Changed hull, engines, electronics, weapons (OK the RBU antisub rocket launchers are still there)
And it went from a downward glide path to a power dive when Clinton was elected.
