But, I expect that it is going to happen. It's just a matter of time, as sea levels were 50-100 meters higher for most of the past 120 million years:

The trend since 1850 has been 2.77 mm/year. At that rate, it would have risen about 1 meter in the past 300+ years since 1660. But, look what has happened to Manhattan in that time:
Humanity has been able to stay ahead of that rise, and actually expanded Manhattan.
