Are China and Vietnam still ‘at-odds’?............................
After WWII Ho Chi Minh came to see Truman and was willing to offer the US Cam Ranh Bay as a military base, as a counter to China and to keep the French out. Truman, of course, wouldn’t see him and supported France’s reoccupation of Indochina, breaking FDR’s promise to oppose any European power’s reestablishment of colonies. So, in a sense Truman started the Vietnam War.
Vietnam is still enemies with China and we might be better off putting the past aside and developing a normalized relationship with them.
