Three decades ago I sang in a wannabe rock band; we played for a party that dragged generators and kegs of beer to the top of a hill in a forestry area in OR with no trails except a logging track, you had to be a mountain goat and fight brush and holly to get to the clearing on top. And yet hundreds of young people showed up.
Today they'd just stay home and play Warcraft.
Really? That's your initial position? Guess you missed that in every story about this there is a reference to the fact that she was so drunk she was unconscious.
And how many people would be standing in front of a judge and say yes your honor, I dropped a few hit of acid???
Except that is a complete distortion of the reality of this. He stood in front of a judge and claimed he had never experienced the party culture before getting to Stanford, a clear lie. He actively distorted his past.
This case pisses me off because the drunken victim takes no responsibility and this kids life is ruined.
Obviously you have not read her statement. Educate yourself.
This kid you speak of is a rapist. He ruined his own life.
No, he raped an unconscious woman. Race has zero to do with it.
I suspect you're wrong, unless it's at his own hand. It would be no loss if something happened to him, but I don't think anyone in the girl's family believes in personal justice, not even when the courts fail so shockingly.
I hear ya. Kids today have no sense of proportion. Your upbringing sounds idyllic and awesome.
Before I die I’m going to pan one more nugget of gold, pick one more bucket of blackberries, jump off one more bridge into the Rogue River.
And if that’s the finis to my story, not so terrible.
Oh.
Golly.
The terror.
The shame.
Such intense punishment.

As a Registered Sex Offender and with the the power of the Internet he is radioactive for life. His education is worthless. His career prospects are nonexistent. Any woman he meets will read of his crime. He is and likely will always be a Societal Leper.
But I’ll defer to you. Tell me the adequate punishment for him as you see it.
20 years?
30 years?
40 years?
Life?
Capital Punishment?
I’d go with 5 to 10. He gets out when he reaches adulthood (26 is the new 18), after serving as a salutary lesson to other college jocks who think they are entitled to a bit of action
