California voters made history on Tuesday in the race for the U.S. Senate, sending two Democrats to a November runoff and denying a Republican a spot on the fall ballot for the first time since the states first direct election of senators in 1914.
State Atty. Gen. Kamala Harris won the largest share of the vote and the title of winner in the primary. By the end of the night, Harris led Orange County Rep. Loretta Sanchez by more than 800,000 votes, a margin of 23 percentage points.

The people who put those Democrats in office have only themselves to blame as the state goes down the toilet. Guess they will never learn or if they ever do it will likely be too late.
If I lived there, I’d vote for blank.
One of them is probably a bit more conservative than the other, so it is still Democrat vs. GOPe - just like the rest of the country but with a bit more truth in labeling. :)
It’s very crazy, it forces the Republicans to run against the democrat in the PRIMARY. And now that this system is in place, cementing Democrats more firmly in control, Republicans will never be able to change it. It has now become a one party state, like Chicago, where the Democrat primary was the actual election.
This is not a primary system, this is one party rule. California is headed for a reckoning and it won’t be pretty when it happens.
We agree!
Its even worse than it seems in California...
On my Republican ballot there were 34 candidates listed on the ballot for US Senator. 3 Republicans and all the Dems/Greens/libertarians etc. because those other parties accept crossover votes.
On the Democrat ballot only Democrats appeared.....because the Republicans don’t allow crossover votes for their candidates.
There were no Republican candidates for most state local offices. You can’t win if you don’t run. There were Democrat candidates for all offices.
For state Assemblyman I has the choice of a Democrat or Blank.
For the first time in my life I voted for Mickey Mouse on blank!
I do live there. I will be leaving this one and others blank. At least Trump for president will be at the top of the ticket.
It’s worse. I was able to hold my nose and vote for McCain and Romney the last two elections. There’s absolutely no way I will vote for either of these extreme leftists. No way.
I do live there. I will be leaving this one and others blank. At least Trump for president will be at the top of the ticket.

Like you, I think I will not bother voting for a Senator...I don’t want to vote for a Dem to be a Senator...
Harris vs Sanchez...What is the difference? Harris is better looking than Sanchez...That is about it...
BTW Michael Medved supported this primary system.

Yes, Medved is all for this kind of primary...
He was upset because Libertarian candidates took away votes from GOP candidates in the general election...
I don’t like this kind of primary...I don’t like it when Libertarian candidates take votes away from GOP candidates.
But, I do believe that people should be able to vote for third-party candidates in the general election...
I think either Harris or Sanchez would beat the GOP candidate in the general election...Yes, even Sanchez...She has a Spanish surname and “D” affiliation...I think that is good enough for many CA voters...
Still, I hate this primary system...I don’t like to be forced to choose between two Dems...I would like to have an option of voting for a GOP candidate although she/he will still lose...
Harris may be worse on the issues but no way will I ever vote for that POS Sanchez. California will have an awful senator yet again.
