I'm not in San Jose but my husband is a professional firefighter in NY and not only would they have helped the kid (because, for one thing they were already on scene) but they probably would have taken out a couple of the protesters.

They just acted like a bunch of lilly livered, liberal Pussies so much in step with San Jose values. Because that's what they are. Almost any other F dept would not have done this. Training or not. I tell you, if this would have been my kid. I would want as many scalps as I could get. The lawsuits would be against everyone I could find. These FFs would also be answering in court.
