Norway has decided to prohibit the selling of all gasoline-powered cars by 2025, according to Norwegian newspaper Dagens Næringsliv.
The ban, which has received support from political parties on the left and the right, is pegged to be the most aggressive anti-gasoline energy policies of its kind in the world the irony, of course, is that Norway is one of the largest producers of fossil fuels in the entire world.
Norwegians produced and exported in 2013 more than 1.2 million barrels of oil, placing it 14th overall on a list of exporting countries, just below Qatar and Mexico.
India and Denmark have discussed the possibility of banning gas-powered cars as well, but Indias policy would begin five years after Norways, in 2030, and the Dutch parliament is heavily divided on their version of the ban, which would also start in 2025.
Banning combustion cars would require a gargantuan effort for most developing countries, but for Norway the effort would be minimal, as nearly a quarter of the Scandinavian countrys cars already have electric drivetrains.
As expected, electric vehicle producers have reacted to the news with praise.

Things that make you roll your eyes.
Ditto solar power, in December.
Just wondering how far a battery powered car will go, in the six inches of snow, with the heater on, with the defroster on, with the wipers on, when the temperature at 0F.
Oslo will look like Havana by 2035.
Diesel anyone?
They should also ban exhaling, since that is another major source of CO2. If we’re going to pass silly laws, we might as well go all out.
There was an item a while back that said the best selling car in Norway was the Tesla so they are projecting EV sales to continue to increase to the point that this ban might be feasable in 9 years or so. Not sure about commercial trucking etc but who knows. They might drop this idea as the time approaches though and they get caught between the rock and a hard place.
Well, electricity still has to be generated and perhaps Norway has concluded that electricity produced by large oil-fired generators is cleaner and more efficient than energy produced by individual automobiles.
Also, they may expect that they will still produce the same amount of oil but just export it to less-developed countries.
Wind up the big rubber band and hop in your Norgemobile
They didn’t mention diesel powered cars.
Norway has cars?
Wow.
Grandpa told me about his ancestors in Norway and he said they were all “Herringboys” who rounded up Herring while riding their Seahorses.
“Git along little Herring.”
..........and headlights.......................
“...but for Norway the effort would be minimal, as nearly a quarter of the Scandinavian countrys cars already have electric drivetrains.”
Does not compute. What about the 3/4 of cars that aren’t electric?
Switching over to coal powered cars, I see.
Or gasoline powered snowmobiles, etc.
It is beginning to look like Algore will exceed Rachael Carson in the spreading of unnecessary misery.
Thankfully, Norman Borlaug stopped Paul Erlich's insanity, though Erlich still pulls in the speaking fees and "expert opinion" interviews.
I’m assuming you mean palm trees and balmy breezes due to glow bull BS? LOL!
