It looks like it would be top heavy.

Indeed. And with the ballast necessary to account for that, I doubt the 32 knot figure tossed out there.

The thing about building one big ship instead of 5 small ships is you only have to sink it once.
AMEN.

The predator (other than man) that is at the top of the food chain isn’t the largest. It’s the wolf, because operate in packs.
AMEN.

================================

ALL TRUE!

1. We may already have that ship, its specs and how to destroy it: POOF.

OR

2. We may build the BIGGER long-range missile: POOF.

3. Either way: POOF,

A.K.A. the Putin POOF

I thought the picture was sarcasm until I looked at the article.

That thing looks goofy and top heavy. What purpose can that pagoda serve in these days of over the horizon radar?

The pyramidal structures are largely hollow and enclose various antennas and sensors to enhance the ship’s stealth characteristics. Starting to look like the “pagoda” superstructures on WWII Japanese battleships.

As for the bombast about having double the firepower of the Arleigh Burke class, that is hardly surprising since, at over 17,000 tons, it is also nearly double the displacement of the US destroyer. There is a direct correlation between hull volume and munitions (missiles) embarked.

This “destroyer” is really just an updated slightly smaller version of the ex-USSR, now largely out of service, Kirov battle cruiser class. Very dangerous ships but, as others have noted, low availability rates due to power plant engineering.

It’s an interesting design. Forgive me though... It immediately reminded me of ‘Space Cruiser Yamato’.

It Just needs the large three gun turrets.

On the other hand it does show that a lot of work went into making the superstructures radar stealthy. I’m personally looking forward to seeing it when it’s fully built and functional.

Where are their good ships? Their only aircraft carrier has to go to sea with tugs so it can be towed.

Pretty ship, nice target!

Yeap that's darn right, massive hulk IJN Mushashi-Yamato, Nazi's Bismark and Tirpitz all sank by warplanes, today antiship mach 10 missile can obliterate a nice modern warship. Rehabilitated Japan already sneaking around their article 9 building assault mini aircraft carrier Izumo class ships to soon carry around F-35B's or some Japanese designed S/VTOL F-35B equivalent.

Funny, I took one look at that bow and thought Kirov. It’s about as distinctive as the launchers on the Slavas.

I think the yards that built their larger amphib ships were in Ukraine.

This proposed heavy cruiser will take forever to build if the other Russian
Naval delivery times are any indications.

The Russians are debating doing a rebuild on their lone aircraft carrier and considering replacing the steam powerplant with nuclear power. They evidently have had a lot of propulsion trouble over the years.

Yep, definitely some design influence from the Kirovs evident here. I believe the Russians have finally begun refurbishing and updating the Kirovs, much as we did with the Iowa-class BBs thirty-odd years ago. Great ships for showing the flag, which Putin likes to do.

Wow, you’ll be able to see that superstructure coming in plenty of time to line up for a torpedo shot.
