WH's Earnest: "We Don't Get Too Disappointed When Job Numbers Are Lower Than Expected"

JOSH EARNEST, WHITE HOUSE SPOKESMAN:

I've been reacting to jobs numbers here at the White House for more than seven years, and what is true today has been true in the past. Which is, we don't get too excited when jobs numbers are better than expected and we don't get too disappointed when jobs numbers one-month are lower than expected.

We're taking a look at the longer-term trends, and over the past six months we have seen wage growth above three percent. That is a positive sign.

That is a positive sign. Job growth has been over 165,000 over the past six months or so. That is a positive trend.

The reports of people who are seeking jobless claims have been below 300,000 [new people per month] for more than a year now... The longer term trends continue to indicate that our economy is resilient, and we are making a strong recoery...

Obviouly true. They certainly haven’t done anything to make the job numbers better.

I suspect the real numbers are 33% to 40% unemployment — Does this mean I should expect 50%?

No, they don’t. Because bonds ramp like a bat out hell, rates drop, and they can keep financing infinite debt, infinitely.
