So I guess I was a real bigot to visit Shakespeare’s Globe Theatre in London the previous two years in a row (saw Anthony and Cleopatra and then The Merchant of Venice)? Really goes to show how anti-intellectual these people really are.

I think Shakespeare might be exempt (have you read some of the poetry he's addressed to men? I know that flowery prose and platonic relationships can get kind of gurgly in expression, but really...)

No, it is not that they are anti-intellectual it is that they lack enough capacity to understand. They are diverse ones.
