Golden Dawn are a reaction to extreme leftism.

And the only thing worse than a reactionary movement is the movement that provoked the reaction in the first place.

Right now Greece needs an Augusto Pinochet to fix their problems and get them back on course as a nation. No one on the left will fix the probems that were created by the left.

And if Golden Dawn are scum then blame the scum who created the chaotic situation that allows a group like Golden Dawn to prosper and seize the opportunity presented by chaos.

Seems to me Golden Dawn is extremely Left, just with racism added in, just like the Nazis.

They’re no more racist than the Mexicans are. They want Greece to remain Greek and not become some ‘no-go’ zone like much of Europe has become.

They’re not my cup of tea but then I’m no big fan of the anti-civilization Multi-Cult either.

In this case, the "cure" will be much worse than the disease.

Just the same as chemotherapy is sometimes more debilitating than the cancer it’s intended to cure.

But keep in mind you started with a cancer.

I’m sure that Golden Dawn looks forward to the day that Yavenik Jews (the Jews who have liven in Greece, have their own Greek dialect and traditions) go extinct in Greece.

Is the Golden Dawn party the one that just won in the recent Greek election? If so, is that the GD party platform or just this one freak?

Golden Dawn Party in Greece has a large contingent of neo-Nazis, although they officially reject the label.

They lost significant support in the recent Greek elections (which removed the radical Left SYRIZA from power). Golden Dawn dropped to around 3% of the vote, from their former high of about 7%.

They had an initial increase in popularity when they rode a wave of anti-immigrant sentiment - during the massive immigrant wave into Europe, and before their Nazi sympathies were widely confirmed.

Ha! Well, Greece is somewhat friendlier now then in past — though their church still has problems

He must be channeling Alexander the Great, who extended Greek rule all the way down to Egypt and was opposed by the Jews. In fact the Maccabee’s rebellion was against the Greek influence in Judae and Samaria. In that regard he’s acting like a Muslim with beliefs that once they rule an area it cannot fall to rule by anyone else.

Alexander the Great actually was accepted by the Jews in Israel. To this day, Alexander is a common Jewish name. It was Antiochus against whom the Maccabees rebelled, partly because they had warm relations with Ptolemy of Egypt, and Antiochus staged a hostile takeover of Egypt and Israel along with it, and partly because he was determined to obliterate all religions other than Greek Polytheism within his realm, a policy against which the Jews rose up in rebellion. It’s all in the Maccabee books of the Apocrypha and Josephus’ Antiquities.

“Antiochus staged a hostile takeover of Egypt and Israel along with it, and partly because he was determined to obliterate all religions other than Greek Polytheism within his realm”

Yes, he Alexander, pretty much only appointed new administrators but left the Jews otherwise to themselves. But in the end it was what he brought, more than his own deeds, that came into conflict with the Jews. And what he brought was Greek religious and civil culture. And minus Alexander would it have been there? No.

The true consequences of leaders is not their immediate intentions but the consequences that follow from their failures and achievements.

Given Alexander’s own family background he had to have understood that his empire would wind up being subjected to the squabbling and motivations of his successors, no matter what were his own ambitions and intentions. He may have had some idealism but he wrongly thought (like Napoleon) he could achieve it with the power of dictatorial ambition. He did not admit, or he failed to understand, that power and ambition would be and was of greater matter to his successors than his idealism.

How did his successors try to claim their power, when they did not have direct family lineage - like Alexander - to Macedonian/Greek royalty? They promoted the advancement of Greek culture and with it arrived the attraction, for personal gain, for locals to adopt that culture as well, and by that reducing adherence and belief to the prior culture in the land.

Antiochus was not an accident. He was a consequence of Alexander. And the prophet Daniel knew it.

Well said. Of course, Alexander fully expected his heir to survive, and he did not, and he also expected to live a lot longer than he did. So he was a great ruler and conqueror, but a failed king, since he failed to provide for his empire after his demise.
