It’s too bad we can’t realize there are no innocents there.
Don’t worry.
The Shia militia participating in the battle probably won’t be making fine distinctions between combatant and non-combatant within the military age Iraqi Sunni males they capture.
Some recent critics claim that the support ISIS enjoys among Iraqi Sunnis has to do with mistreatment of Sunnis by the Shia- controlled central government.
Their memories are short.
Iraqi Sunnis ran the country under Sadaam Hussein. During their decades of power, they humiliated and suppressed the Shia majority and conducted campaigns of annihilation against the Kurds. Their support of ISIS is nothing less than resentment of losing their political power and a desire to get it back. They were false friends to the coalition during the “awakening” in Anbar under US occupation. They simply bided their time and accepted the money being paid out by the United States for their “support and loyalty”.
They are getting exactly what they deserve. Given the Arab talent to nurture the desire for revenge ( justified or not) from generation to generation, even the children become infected.
