On paper, they make up the most formidable Libertarian ticket ever. But they still need to make the leap to seriousness.
Former New Mexico Gov. Gary Johnson seized the Libertarian nomination for president at the party’s national convention this weekend and escaped a hotly contested convention with his hand-picked running mate, former Massachusetts Gov. William Weld.
The pair form a political team of two former Republican governors that Johnson declared to be the most formidable third-party ticket in the modern era, one that he promised would thrust Libertarians from the fringe of American politics to “major party status” in a period of widespread mistrust of both the Republican and Democratic parties.
With Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton registering as two of the least liked and most mistrusted politicians in the country, many Libertarians see an opening — and a desire — for an alternative. And Johnson is the only other candidate likely to appear on the ballot in every state. Raising more money is supposed to be the big advantage of selecting Weld, who served as a fundraiser for Mitt Romney. “He really likes fundraising and he’s connected,” Johnson said. “And I really hate fundraising and I’m not connected.”
Their goal, in particular, is to loosen the wallets of the many disaffected and libertarian-leaning Republicans turned off by Trump’s bombastic rhetoric and shifting policy stands by offering them an alternative of two former Republican governors.

Polls show Gary Johnson takes more votes from Hillary. He is pro amnesty, pro gay marriage, pro abortion. He is also the CEO of a company that sells marijuana.
Technically they could — I am just hoping for an intelligent electorate who will not let themselves be used to help Hillary into the White House and will get out and vote for Trump.

Polls show Johnson takes equally from Trump and Hillary. The latest Fox poll has Trump with a 3% lead with or without Johnson.
Don’t forget, Johnson is strongly in favor of open borders...Or no borders at all....

They don’t understand that Trump is not a politician. He is a citizen running for office, just like the Founders intended.

I frequent a mostly Liberal blog site. They have a running poll - Trump, Clinton, or Johnson. Johnson is winning. They hate Trump, but there is no enthusiasm for Clinton.
