Stephen Hawking understands the workings of the universe but says he cannot fathom the popularity of Donald Trump.
The British astrophysicist told ITVs morning show Monday that the presumptive Republican Party candidate for U.S. president is a demagogue who seems to appeal to the lowest common denominator.
Hawking also appealed to British voters to vote to keep the United Kingdom inside the European Union in a June 23 referendum.

The most "innocent" explanation I can think of in *his* case is that it could be much more difficult for him, given his nearly life-long medical affliction,to accept the existence of an all powerful, loving and forgiving God.
If you know past world chess champions an awful lot of them were insane. Bobby Fischer was a prime example.
He’s a pretty helpless guy, so self reliance may not be familiar to him. Socialism might appear good to him. He’s also wealthy so he might enjoy the close to the rulers advantages that the rest of us serfs don’t get.
Thats a great point you make. For one I would rather die than having to deal with what Steven Hawking does with his physical maladies. Thats rough—poor guy.

Trump slams ‘spoiler’ bid after Kristol says independent candidate to run
Published May 30, 2016 FoxNews.com
Donald Trump took to Twitter Sunday night to slam fresh predictions from Weekly Standard editor Bill Kristol that an independent candidate would soon be entering the race for president, warning that a 2016 spoiler could swing the race to the Democrats.
Kristol, along with other conservative pundits, long has been working to attract an independent candidate to run in November amid lingering concerns in some wings of the Republican Party about Trumps conservative credentials. This effort to date has struggled to recruit a willing candidate, while running into logistical hurdles — including the rules and deadlines for getting new names on the ballot.
Yet on Sunday, Kristol teased a forthcoming announcement, saying on Twitter:
But Stephen doesn't get out much.
Trump has a way of growing on you. I voted for Cruz in the primary (never again) and kept listening and thinking. I always liked what Trump said but didnt like the way he said it. I couldnt see that kind of talk in the WH. But then I began to realize he couldnt have accomplished all he has without good leadership skills, #1. And #2, Washington must be cleaned up and the best hope for the world is going down the tubes. Washington must change and it will take a non-traditional leader like Trump to get the job done. A radical change is needed and Trump is the only hope we have.
Being Intelligent does not make one Wise.
Lots of things seem to be baffling Hawking's these days....
:)
You posted this verbatim in another thread.
God is the only hope we have.
I’ve always believed that Hawkings is over-rated.
Yes, he’s the stupidest genius I’ve ever met (or the smartest idiot) lol.
It’s funny that the brilliant world of science now thinks that someone with male genitalia could actually be female, and vise versa. How smart is that?!
SH and Neil Tyson: atheists first, political activists second, scientists third.
I tried searching for “Stephen Hawking Practical Application” and came up with nothing specific. He’s had some confusing theories about black holes, from his surmising that they do emit visible electromagnetic radiation (aka light) to his statement to the effect that “there are no black holes” (which the “scientific community” had to spin to mean that he didn’t say that black holes do not exist).
Typical book-smart-idiot living in an academic bubble.
Is Mr. Hawking possibly making the same mistake that misguided Americans do, not questioning what he hears about people and the issues from the corrupt media?
