I've believed for some time that Trump will win NY, NJ, and PA. That alone would make a D path to 270 all but impossible. I've assumed CA would be out of reach this cycle, but Trump clearly senses weakness there and I'll defer to his judgement. Simply forcing Hillary to spend time and resources defending this must-win prize would mean less time and resources to compete in the purple states.

The exhaustion angle is important. During the primaries Trump showed amazing stamina, holding rallies at a breakneck pace that would be challenging for a man half his age. If he can force Hillary to try to match his schedule, the physical toll on her will be all-too-visible for all to see.

Trump wants to not just win but win big to give him a clear mandate. Certainly winning NY and CA would be electrifying and confer an undeniable mandate for exactly the sort of housecleaning that is needed.

The exhaustion angle is an excellent point. i have been pointing out that Hillary has been hiding in plain site the entire time. No energy needed during the primary until Crazy Bernie started “using his energy”. He has devastated her. She has nothing left in the tank and has nothing to show for the minimal effort she put out.
