“Dont know squat about F1 racing, but I would think that with modern sensors and availability of all sorts of computing power, one would be able to continuously monitor fuel consumption (and continuously predict it as well) so as to make an end-of-the-race refueling decision with a pretty high degree of reliability (maybe even within an error margin of +/- one-half lap!).”
In F-1, the driver must finish the race, do a slow down/victory lap and have at least one liter of fuel left in the tank for FIA scrutineering.
