Well, it’s not technically a tax. But it is a mandatory fee on any telecomm service (Telephone, cellular plan, cable,or broadband.).

Now don’t get me wrong, I am all for free internet for libraries and schools and community colleges. And I understand everyone kicking in a little to cover that.

What I don’t understand is why I have to pay for Obamaphone through my cellular bill. Can’t they use internet based email at the library or local unemployment office?

I’m pretty sure it is what used to be known as the Gore Tax. You have been paying it since the 90s.
