Indonesia has toughened its punishments for child rapists to include the death penalty and chemical castration.
It follows outrage over several recent violent crimes, including the gang-rape and murder of a 14-year-old girl.
President Joko Widodo said the regulation was "intended to overcome the crisis caused by sexual violence against children".
Previously, the maximum sentence for rape, of either an adult or a child, was 14 years in jail.
People jailed for sexual offences against children may also now be made to wear electronic monitoring devices after their release.

We should at MINIMUM in the US erase all statutes of limitation on child rape or molestation. A certain number of counts of molestation should get you the death penalty. Convictions should carry longer sentences.
I understand the argument that child molesters will then kill their victims. Maybe some will. We also need to protect our children better. BUT RIGHT NOW, MOLESTERS ARE GETTING WRIST SLAPPINGS.
My molester was just convicted for a few counts against other children and he didn’t even get one night in jail!!!! He molested girls as young as 3. He’s on the offender list and has to do some kind of community service?!? So frustrating for his many, many victims over many years.
Why do they get so little time? I don't understand it. The man who was the first convicted of revenge pornography got 25 years. While I agree he should have been jailed, is that crime worse the child sexual abuse? Is tax evasion worse?
Crazy world as the USA is certainly on a short path to legalizing pedophilia and relinquishing the onus of punishments for these crimes as we attempt to outdo Sodom & Gomorrah.
Put them on an island where they can do it to each other plus a few sheep we can provide. They are harmless otherwise so give them the tools to build their own colony with U.N. representation(lol).
I don’t know. We waited 4 years for his case to get to trial. He was convicted on several counts. Why didn’t he get jail time? I don’t understand it myself.

The clergy.
Teaching.
Day care.
Law enforcement.
Children’s television.

Judges - (particularly family court. )
Child psychologists.

Seems a bit redundant to me... if you execute them, the castration part might really not be needed. On the other hand, you could castrate them first, then execute them.
Unfortunately the Indonesian judicial system is corrupt. Just refer to the case at the Jakarta Intercultural School where two teachers are in jail on false charges.
