Below are my picks of the five people most likely to wind up sharing a ticket with Trump. These rankings are based on conversations with Republicans, a study of Trump's public comments about the various people in the VP mix and plain old intuition.
5. Joni Ernst
The senator from Iowa has a very bright political future ahead of her. Ernst emerged as a surprising star of the 2014 Senate class with a sterling resume (military background, time spent in state legislature, etc.) and a gift for communicating. She's well-liked by many in the party and is seen as a fresh face -- factors that should appeal to Trump. The question is whether Ernst wants to hitch her wagon -- and her political future -- to The Donald.
4. Bob Corker
*snip*
2. Mary Fallin

The Donald is his own man and will pick a person that can help him reach the goals he has set not only for himself but also for the country. He didn’t make 10+ billion by picking ‘good ol’ boys’ or hot broads. He made it by picking people that could do the tough jobs and do them well with minimum supervision.
Of these five, my first pick would be Joni Ernst. She has the blunt tell-it-like-it-is style that would complement Mr. Trump. Plus she would put Iowa in play.
Newt is great, but I still don’t think two 70-year-old men on the same ticket would succeed today. Newt for Chief of Staff. BTW, I love Jeff Sessions but he poses the same problem.
Christie for Attorney General.
No to Corker.
And Fallin’s recent abortion veto and budget woes rule her out—and Oklahoma is the reddest state in the country.
Trump recently said picking a woman or minority as VP would be “pandering.”
Not likely he would do that.
Trump recently said picking a woman or minority as VP would be “pandering.”
Not likely he would do that.
Sessions said he’d do it. case closed.
I like Newt Gingrich.
Ernst Disappointed in Trump, Women Shouldnt Put Up With His ‘Nonsense... she may be blunt but headlines such as this one from April don’t complement Mr. Trump.
Of these rumored, the presidential material strikes me as in Corker. But gope tendencies have been prominent.
Somehow, I expect Trump to surprise me. I like Sessions, Tom Cotton, Gov. Abbott of Texas, maybe Scott of Florida, possibly Christie.
Never Kasickkk!
How about Jim Webb as VP?
I wonder about the opinion of the TRUMP children, as they look to the future for the White House and Republican Party, and age as a factor, perhaps very important to their generation?
Thanks for the insight. This speculation about Trump’s running mate is rather frustrating. I hope Mr. Trump’s search is going much more smoothly and that he sees a strong compatible running mate who may also swing a battleground state.
I briefly thought of Senator Grassley from Iowa but age rules him out. There is Senator Johnson from Wisconsin, who is in a tough reelection battle with Feingold.
Dan Quayle recommended Ohio’s Senator Portman, who I gather is strong on trade issues.
Senator Toomey in Pennsylvania, also involved in a tight reelection race, publicly said he voted for Cruz.
Rubio has declined and Florida Governor Scott wants to keep his job in the Sunshine State.
There probably is an obvious choice right under our noses!
On the other hand, Mr. Trump may have a Yuge surprise in store for us!! I wonder if he’ll be able to keep it a secret until the convention begins???
Thanks again for telling me what Ernst had said.
Should TRiUMPh be considering Corker, we ask WHY?
Fallin must be a supreme disappoint to her state of Oklahoma. Why should TRiUMPh choose her? Jan Brewer would be a better choice.
Newt definitely for Chief of Staff; NOT a running mate. Sessions would be ideal for the position.
Joni Ernst is not ready to be VP. Sorry. I am not sure she will ever be.
I like her but she’s not ready.
Sorry to hear Ernst has proven to be a disappointing RINO!
I do love Sessions but feel Trump will need him to stay in the Senate and Alabama is a lock for Trump.
I agree with you about Jan Brewer from Arizona, but have been thinking about current AZ Senator Martha McSally (who is a retired Air Force Colonel).
Wikipedia I know, but interesting, particularly primary endorsements between Trump announcing and winning Indiana.

I tend to like proven executive experience in a chief executive. Review of executive experience:
Sanders: None. Never even held a job except politician.
Clinton: None.
Trump: Yuge. Billionaire. Bankruptcy experience useful for USA.
A VP has to be ready to become President from day one. Senators, jr. military officers, etc. are not executives, even if they are good politicians, barring other experience. Enough with amateur hour.
Not a politician.
McSally, though not much is personally known of her, might possibly fill the bill. Rather than raid the senate, do hope he is considering such persons as Allen West, J C Watts, J D Hayworth and others...thinking outside the box.
