MENDELSSOHN: PIANO QUARTET IN C MINOR, OP. 1, PRESTO

The scherzo returns to the key of C minor, but it’s duple time, not the traditional 3/4. The central panel, or “trio,” is in a peaceful C Major, and the tune is reminiscent of Schubert. It finishes as it began.
