Sanders is not going to be the dem nominee.

The goal is to elevate his standing so that he goes third party.

Sanders won his seat as an independent. I don’t believe he is a registered democrat.

There is no risk for Trump. Rafael is not coming back from his vacation in Mexico to steal the nomination.

Trump will attack Hillary. Bernie will attack Hillary. It’s a win win.

Good idea - and funny. You could imagine Clinton fuming at that one.

-- This makes no sense, unless you're actually worried about the damage it does to Hillary's campaign. --

That is exactly what Democrat_media is worried about. Democrat_media does not want to damage Hillary's campaign, because she has a lower probability of beating Trump than Sanders. That's Democrat_media's argument or point of view in a nutshell.

Does that point of view play particularly strongly with a Trump/Sanders debate? My point being that if the concern is damaging Hillary, then Democrat_media should also advocate that Trump belay criticizing her until after the DEM convention.

Since when has Trump made a mistake that hurt his campaign?

He says he’s already been approached by several major networks. It’s a no-brainer ratings bonanza. Trump clearly knows what he’s doing.

They have said they are willing to host the debate. Have they said that they are willing to pay the $10 to $15 million for the honor?

To compare Trump’s run with the likes of McCain and Romney is silly.

Your right, it’s not 2008 or 2012. The people are not happy with the status quo.

Debating Bernie sounds like a clever idea, an opportunity to pound the old socialist into political oblivion. But its a needless risk for Trump at this juncture that could easily backfire in unintended ways. In fact, Bernie doesn’t even need to speak the truth; a convenient fabrication and twisting of facts could work well for him. You can be sure there will be plenty of that.

Don’t get upset when the media distorts Trump’s every word and spins Bernie’s babble into a “big win”. If the media wants it, you have to be wary about it.

You and Starboard need to simmer down. There are no downsides here for Trump. Even if Sanders completely trounced him, all that it would do is throw the Democratic nomination process into complete disarray as people rally to Sanders, but the Democratic establishment cannot give the nomination to Sanders. More likely, however, people will see that while both Sanders and Trump are free agents not beholden to the special interests who rule Washington, between the two, Trump represents prosperity and strength, whereas Sanders represents poverty and weakness. Not a difficult choice for all anyone not on the far left lunatic fringe.

Of course they will if they think they stand to make more, and Trump knows a thing or two about ratings and ad dollars, what with the Apprentice and his campaign TV appearances and all.

Is there anyone out there who doesn't watch TV anymore (I know I don't) but would watch this (I know I would)? No brainer. Good chunk of the planet will too.

Then why is Obama’s approval rating above 50%? Incredible but true.

Stop it with the fear!! I fear the establishment sellout crone much more than I fear Sanders. Sanders won't win. One reason is that he's getting next to no black vote. The other is, as I've stated, we win the discussion about ideas, every time.

And you know what? If Trump doesn't win, the US is goin' down, anyway. I'd rather it be with Sanders exposing the rigged system and not being bought out than with a sold-out pol.

I don’t listen to the media about debates or who they think won,, Trump wins the debates.. you’ll notice he’s the only person who has clinched a nomination,, watch the polls after the debate to see who won.. I have no worry about Trump debating Bernie..

Undermines Hillary simply by giving her competitor a platform.
Undermines Hillary by letting her competitor debate his views and attack her.
Looks more moderate by being willing to debate her competitor when she wouldn’t.
Gives himself another platform to express his views in the name of looking moderate/open.

There is a history in debates of one person getting damaged beyond repair. I can think of three good examples off hand:

Reagan vs. Carter (”there you go again)

Lazio vs. Clinton (unwisely “confronting” her on stage)

Bentsen vs. Quail (”you’re no John Kennedy”)

Trump’s a great debater and counter puncher but I don’t understand the reluctance of some to see that all it takes is one misstep to damage you. Its a risk and I’m not convinced its worth it at this point in the process.

We know that Sanders represents poverty and weakness. But there are a lot of Americans who think he represents fairness and social justice. Bernie will use that against Trump and try to portray him as a wealthy robber baron.

Hillary dismissed Bernie. How did that work out for her?

You make some valid points.

However there is no chance Bernie will be the nominee.
On the outside chance Hillary is indicted, Bite me is waiting in the wings and will be harder to defeat than Hilda. But Hillary is not going to be indicted by Obama’s
justice department. This debate between Trump & Bernie, if
it takes place is a loser for Hillary for many reasons.

So....barring a serious gaffe by Trump, it is all good.
