The story says the Obamas are leasing the place for five years until Sasha finishes at Sidwell. But if they wanted to stay in DC, I would have thought they might move to Chillum, Petworth, or Old Town Anacostia to help spark a reviving neighborhood. Why settle for Kalorama and Embassy Row when they could buy the biggest place on Martin Luther King Avenue and fix it up?
Wanting to keep Sasha in Sidwell is laudable. It's just too bad that Obama opposes school choice for the peasantry, while opting to live in a neighborhood in which virtually no one has kids in public school, except of course for the domestic help and chauffeurs.
