The media still cant figure out why Newt Gingrich is at the very top of Donald Trumps VP list. A recent Slate article starts this way: Donald Trump selecting Newt Gingrich as his running mate would be insane. The writer asserts Gingrich would be the perfect pick for Trump, implying the GOP front-runner is crazy as well. Call Donald Trump a lot of things; crazy is not one of them. Controversial, audacious, sometimes brash and extreme all yes. But the primaries have showed Trump is a brilliant communicator and master tactician. Crazy like a fox, perhaps. Recently, I had lunch with a group of GOP billionaires and power brokers. The group had various feelings about Trump, pro and con. But all were dazzled by his ability to win a hotly contested Republican primary all by himself, as one of the attendees put it. (Billionaires hate spending money; thats how they become rich. So they admire Trump for his no-frills approach.) Trump doesnt think like a politician and that's been his greatest strength with the public. When a normal presidential candidate looks at picking a vice presidential running mate, the candidate usually weighs what a selection brings to the ticket. Does the prospect carry a state? Would a woman, black or Hispanic help with one of those groups? Those are the questions, and others, asked by the candidates and their closest advisers. Trump wouldnt ask those questions. He believes he is going to win this election himself. He will win women, blacks, and Hispanics by what he says and does.

Unless you can convince the networks to run a weekly documentary against Newt, the history you cite won’t make any difference.
If you want Trump to keep Hillary out of the WH, then Newt is his best choice.
This is a political read, not a personal preference, as that ship has sailed.
Thank you, I appreciate your perspective and your first hand knowledge.
I expect Trump’s VP pick will surprise some of us, make some of us happy and some of us shake our head. I don’t have a clue who that might be.
He does seem to be able to find the right person for the job, whatever that job might be.
Thanks for a thoughtful response. I always wanted to like Newt. Maybe even this feeble mind can change, now knowing what you’ve shared. I’d thought he was sharp. Even bought the books he recommended. Then he seemed to fly too close to the sun. He certainly does attract all the right enemies, though.
I think you’re right about Petraeus. He’s gone all Wesley Clark on us. He had a chance to resign at the disgrace of Benghazi, but instead buckled to to the blackmail. Then got screwed anyhow. And he STILL came out to trash DT, IIRC.
I think a Trump/Newt would be one of the most formidable President/Vice President duo this Country has EVER seen.
Trump didn't waste time ‘reinventing the wheel’... and that's why he's looking at Gingrich. Trump needs someone who knows the ‘ins and outs’ of passing legislation... nuts and bolts of how it's done. Someone who's DONE the job... that's Newt.
Also, Newt's been vetted, he 'gets the Trump magic' thing, he's known, and in a worst case scenario, he's capable of being President.
But that makes you the LIAR ... so I think I will post that you are a Liar about 50 - 60 times in various places... And I can prove that you are a liar .... Have FUN
LIAR
Well here is the truth. He actually did visit her, a few months after their separation, in the hospital after cancer surgery to discuss the terms of the divorce.
"It came as a complete surprise," Jackie later told the Washington Post's Lois Romano. "He walked out in the spring." That September, Jackie, in the hospital for her third cancer surgery, had a visitor. Their daughters told her, "Daddy is downstairs." But when he came up, Jackie told the Post, "He wanted to discuss the terms of the divorce while I was recovering."Newt went to his wife's hospital room not to give her flowers and tell her that he wanted her to get well as a real human being would have done.
In my opinion, Patraeus was always a political player. His tenure at CENTCOM was decent, but he was a prime example of the danger of getting too cozy with Muslim tyrants. Americans are too taken with royalty and often overlook the brutal reality of the Middle East—the view from the palaces masks the reality of the cultural evil.
Newt is great at debates also
Besides - is she a child abuser?... Jackie was Newt's High School Teacher and ‘married’ him when he was still a teenager... not even a year out of high school. I'm guessing the 'love' happened when he was a minor.
Apparently you had Petraeus pegged well before I did. We’ve seen a lot of generals that’d remind us of the pre-Grant era during the Civil War.
Thanks for that. I grow tired of drudging up years of history to respond to folks. I just know over the years he has not lived up to his core book learning. That’s disappointing to say the least.
Here’s what I see as a problem.
The man is simply brilliant when it comes to the U. S. Constitution. Then he goes right out and sometimes pushes things that conflict with it. It drives me crazy, some of the things this guy did.
We’d get momentum going, and Newt would stick a big pin in the balloon.
I don’t want a guy like that anywhere near Trump. Trump would spend his time covering over leaks.
You touch on more specific issues and I appreciate it.
It’s important.
Careful, no need to ruin your rep. “:^)
Not a single one who will help him win the election. He is going to need a Blue Dog Democrat.
LOL....my “reputation” is whatever it is and I shan’t stop complimenting posters when they deserve to be patted on the back for a job well done. ;^)
“:^)
Okay, but don’t say I didn’t warn you. LOL
Take care...
Newts the man!!!
You take care too..............
Your punctuation skills are as bad your your political ones.
You know I appreciate all you do too. This especially disturbed me; a quote from Gingrich that he was at the point of suicide or insanity regarding his marriage.
...he later told Mother Jones: "I ultimately wound up at a point where suicide, or going insane, or divorce were the last three options." By 1980, Gingrich had made his choice. His mother had mental health issues which often run in a family. I fear that the Vice President's analyst could become the most torturous job on the planet with Newt.
The last line of this article:
But what happens to the country while Newt Gingrich immerses his insecurities in a cause meant to justify himself?
