Littoral Combat Ships and F-18 Super-Hornet jets will probably top Vietnam’s shopping list for US-made weapons now that President Barack Obama has lifted Washington’s 50-year-old arms embargo on Hanoi, former US diplomat Jim Jatras told Sputnik.

WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — Obama announced in Hanoi on Monday the lifting of the US embargo on Vietnam during his three-day visit.

"Among the systems Hanoi reportedly is interested in are Lockheed Martin’s F-16 jets, Boeing’s F/A-18 Super Hornet jets, competing littoral combat ship designs from Lockheed Martin and General Dynamics, and precision-guidance munitions from Raytheon and Boeing," Jatras said on Tuesday.

Jatras dismissed Obama’s assurance on Monday that his decision to lift the arms embargo was not based on China or any other considerations as unworthy of serious consideration.

Will the sales be heavily subsidized by the US taxpayers?

President Ike is rolling over in his grave and is saying, “I warned you about the military/industrial complex! You never listen!”

Or in plain English, the Neocons never stop selling a new war and their weapons of war.

The Viet Reds will have to produce a lot of canvas shoes to afford one F-18.

Sure! great! Crap on the head of my brother 58,000 dead and buried U.S. heroes. Wet on their headstones, why don’t you!

Now, do you actually think that CHINA might not, ahem, borrow, a few aircraft, or have a long, personal tour of a brand new surface vessel, and not bring their measuring instruments, so THEY begin producing them for themselves and export???

Yes, i do believe that WE THE PEOPLE will be footing the bill.

They hate the Chinese why would they let them on one of their boats or planes? If we would have had a different president for the past 8 years Vietnam may have made the transition to a democratic capitalist country. As it is they got a hybrid system. And for the measure of freedom and prosperity that they have they can thank the US for keeping out the communists out of Asia as long as we did.

He is an equal opportunity kind of guy, he did this to all of the Iraq war vets already. He is most likely sad that there are not that many Korean war vets left for him to crap on.

They might consider selling them Littoral Combat Ships an act of war after they try them out.

Was expecting Obi to apologize for Op Hades. After all, it was a DEMOCRAT President named JFK who initiated it.

In accordance with the Foreign Assistance Act and Arms Export Control Act, Obummer must submit any each sale of SME (Significant Military Equipment) or MDE (Major Defense Equipment) to Congress for approval.

http://www.disam.dsca.mil/pubs/DR/05%20Chapter.pdf

Congress can stop any sales obummer offers.

THey might be considering the LCS, if they have completely lost their senses

Holland OPV

Similar size to LCS, quarter to third the cost, built of heavy grade steel. Like the LCS it lauches boats from door below flight deck. Like the LCS capable of operating in low intensity environments. (But for dealing with boat swarm carries, in addition to the 50cals, a 30mm auto cannon - with that you only have to touch them once)

Like the LCS, it is also totally incapable of ASW or counter-mine operations.

And built by Dutch firm Damen, who have a shipyard in Vietnam.

Dear phormer,

re: “He is most likely sad that there are not that many Korean war vets left for him to crap on.”

Let me ‘edit’ that for ya.
<< He is most sad that there are ANY Korean vets alive.>>

(Now, a question ... ‘phrog’, is that ‘French’, or, Soviet ‘Frog’ aircraft, or, ‘a nondescript naval aviator of the many airwings of the world’?)

Dear phormer,

re: ‘phrog’ definition ... Thank you, and may we share this sacred weekend, ‘the stories of how they lived’, of those we have come to know, and gave their all in the service of our nation.

‘Class SouthEastAsia, ‘homeroom’ U-Tapao RTNAF, Thailand, home of the ‘BUFF’, 1971 - 1974.’
