A Memorial Day display featuring crosses to honor fallen soldiers was removed from public property in Georgia after someone questioned whether the soldiers were all Christian.
The 79 white, handmade crosses posted on public property along state Highway 92 in Hiram, Ga., were meant to represent the 79 Paulding County residents who died in America’s wars, according to town officials.
But the crosses were abruptly taken down last Friday after someone called Hiram City Hall questioning whether the cross is an appropriate symbol for the memorial.
Hiram Mayor Teresa Philyaw said the cross display, which she approved and planned, was never intended to be religious.
"It was never about religion -- it was just to honor them," Philyaw told FoxNews.com on Tuesday. "I was devastated when it had to come down."

An appropriate reply might have been "Can you produce any evidence that they weren't? We would love to honor them with a Star of David or other appropriate symbol."
Get some balls, Mayor Teresa ... put the crosses back ... stand up for your community’s values.
Crosses need to be replaced with a sign that reads,”CROSSES REMOVED BECAUSE OF A PC ASSHOLE” (That lives next to one of us??)
So who buckled after just one (or a few) phone calls?
Just say “Thank you for your comments.”
Then leave the crosses up as there are many more who didn’t complain about them.
What has happened to our elected representatives and appointed judges in this country?
What causes them to feel they must discriminate against the overwhelming majority to satisfy the wishes of one or two complaining whiners?

Here is a person, living with all the rights, privileges, and safety in the country that these brave warriors died protecting, complaining about whether the cross symbolizing their sacrifice was appropriate because they may or may not have been Christian.....*sigh*
My words to you, the complainer...Just say, “Thank you...” and be on your way....
Stop wimping out. Ask for their name, address and phone number. If they don’t give the info, then they aren’t serious. If they do give the info, then it’s one person out of however many in the county. Direct them to do the research to answer their own question. Leave the crosses up but add a camera so you can have proof if the moron attempts to remove them himself.
Just say “Thank you for your comments.”
They will say this to one who says they are offended the crosses were taken down.

Make it a fair fight and publish the name and address of who complained. The community can then pay them their respect.
