Just last week we bought dinner for a couple of guys in uniform at a local restaurant - we were pretty much done with our meal when they came in and we lingered over coffee until they ordered and then conspired with our waitress to get their bill, and paid it on the way out.
I well remember those young and lean years in the canoe club, and it's little enough that we can do.
