When I was a recent graduate I recall looking at some civil service positions that listed qualifications such as:
BS degree or 1 year experience
masters degree or two years experience.

At the time I was incredulous. But now I understand.

Showing that a year in the real world teaches you more than four years in college, and two years more than five or six.
