That said, I believe that the decision to sell arms to Viet Nam is a good one. We cannot afford to cede the South Sea to China. That would put all surface trade in SEA and a huge portion of world trade under the control of China. In the case of war, either great power war or local war involving China, ceding control of that area is like ceding the Atlantic to the Kaiser in 1913.
Let’s see, the skinny git has armed ISIS and Al Queda, approved Irans path for nuclear weapons and now openly arms communist governments. He probably offered Cuba a few icbm’s when he was there kissing their aszes a few months ago. vietnams on again off again chumminess with china and russia ensures all weapons will end up in these countries hands to be reverse engineered. There is another, “flanking action”
The reason for the original action in Viet Nam was to flank the Russian incursion in Indo China. The same is true now except the enemy being flanked is China and the Chinese Navy
Ironically, the end in viet Nam came after Kissinger opened up China and it became the flanking force to curb Russian expansion
