“1. KFC Chicken
Doesn’t everyone like fried chicken? This stereotype dates back to slave days when chicken was an easy dish to serve them.’
They had slave days in Australia? I didn’t think so. But after a little googling...
“In 1901, under pressure from the British anti-slavery movement, the newly formed Australian government banned slavery and ordered islanders to be repatriated. But some ship captains took their human cargoes well offshore and threw them overboard.”
So Australia have slavery until as late as 1901. Learned something new today.
“In 1901, under pressure from the British anti-slavery movement, the newly formed Australian government banned slavery and ordered islanders to be repatriated. But some ship captains took their human cargoes well offshore and threw them overboard.
I wasn’t aware of that, but I am aware of how an edict from government almost always creates the opposite of what is desired by government. Florida, to protect eagles even beyond what the feds do, declared that all development work must be stopped if an eagles nest is found or a $15,000 fine will be levied. After all the caveats that he didn’t do it, a developer I interviewed for an article told me, “I can tell you to the minute when I will go bankrupt. I’m spending $50,000 every five days. So, when we find an eagles nest, somebody knocks it down on the weekend, kills the birds, and I pay a $15,000 fine.” He went on to say, something on the order of, “Could we have them moved and saved, sure. That’s not allowed, so my company and hundreds of jobs are sacrificed. The government doesn’t care.”
zBut I didn’t know they even HAD African-Americans in Australia!?!?!?!??!?!!?
