"Why is the word “innocent” the first word in the story? Wouldn’t it be “Woman gunned down outside Starbucks”?"

Doesn't the use of the word 'innocent' imply that there are guilty out there that may deserve being shot?

Chicago has the toughest gun laws in the nation with nearly the whole city declared a gun free zone.

It's been three years since Chicago's handgun ban was over-turned. No longer a gun free zone.

Exactly. You ever hear of a “Guilty Person Shot Outside A Store”?

Innocent in the story to me implies that they were not guilty of anything in court or something.

And this is why my husband remarked rather snidely that our son and I actually survived Chicago, after spending a day there a few months ago.

Here in Chicago, if you dont go south of Harold Washington library or west of ..oh, the train station on madison. You should be fine

This poor woman was killed around 35th and State. Which is where the Robert Taylor homes were. They tore those dangerous buildings down and scattered those people around this area and the southside.

...basically they put lipstick on a pig. Yeah, they added a starbucks, jimmy john sandwich shop and moderate homes and police station. But most Chicagoans know, to stay away from this area

When one reads this headline the question it poses is; Was it meant to leave the impression that if your in downtown Chicago you chance gettiong shot ?

Brennan and the NY Daily news editors should know that major cities have a central headquaaters and district hheadquarters scattered throughout the city. Or do they, and does he ? If this occured at Chicago’s south loop central headquarters it would be of more significance (meaning the public is not safe in the loop area) rather than if it happened at a district location where there is high criminal actvity.

“I know that democrat-controlled areas have higher crime rates,”

Well, if an area’s demographic is poor and black, the area is a crime haven. Poor and blacks tend to vote for Demonrats. A democratic-controlled area is just a symptom.

Due to a rash of daylight shootings in the DofC, the mayor (B-F) and Police Chief (W-F)were collectively wringing their hands and bemoaning on the Local TV stations.

MY solution is - ARM the citizens.

GIVE them ALL a Pistol with a little Ammo.

Problem now is that since the draconian laws prevent most HONEST, LAW ABIDING CITIZENS (as in TAX PAYERS)permission to carry, so the ‘thugs etal’ just see a target and open fire because they are ‘afraid’ the target may be armed.

INNOCENT by standers EVEN if armed are reluctant to do anything about since the penalties are not ‘worth it’.

NOW, if ALL citizens could and would carry, the random shooting would virtually grind to a halt - at least during normal business hours and early evening populated areas.

The threat that if one thug fires off a round and all of a sudden 3 people from different sides start firing back, they will rethink that strategy.

Would imagine arming ALL would be cheaper than the funerals, hospital stays etc of todays methods.

In today’s world, the value of a human life depends solely on the ethnicity of he who takes it.
