Baghdad Wakes to Sounds of Helicopters, Talk of a People’s 'Revolt'

BAGHDAD—

Baghdad woke Saturday to the early morning sounds of helicopters flying overhead, most of them heading in and out of the fortified International Zone after protesters defied bullets and tear gas to storm the area.

As they fled the gunfire and tear gas Friday afternoon, some carrying their injured friends across the bridge away from the IZ, the anti-government protesters vowed they would return – but with weapons.

Many are followers of Shi’ite cleric Muqtada al-Sadr who, like many of the political leaders in Iraq, has his own armed militia known as the Peace Brigades.

Sadr has come out in support of what he describes as the people’s “revolt” against the government

Obama and Hillary are both losers, but this has to be put on Bush and his idiot advisers. Invading Iraq was a huge military blunder. Saddam held that dump together and provided a counter to Iran, but Bush pulled the plug and chaos was inevitable. All the lives lost and millions squandered in a vain attempt to turn that dump into a free country! What utter hubris and stupidity. It makes me furious to think of all the lives that were sacrificed only to create more problems than we had before.

Remember, Bush got up and praised Islam, calling it a “great religion”, put a Koran in the White House library, and started the flood of Muslim “refugees” coming in to invade our country.

We have to be willing to criticize Republicans as well as Democrats if we want to prevent such disasters in the future. There never was a victory in Iraq or Afghanistan, just a temporary lull in the violence.

You don’t fight a philosophy by invading countries with armies. You keep it the hell out of your country. Islam should be banned in civilized countries, Muslims deported, and institute a “pet the pig” requirement to board a plane or enter the US. Let the savages slaughter their fellow Muslims in their own countries as long as they want.

I say Sadr should be given a free trip to Mosul and have a chat with Isis.

Puppet governments never last.

Unfortunately for policymakers, a genuinely representative Iraqi government would be dominated by Shia and an ally to Iran.

That’s kind of why Saddam had to be as brutal as he was to stay in power.

To think - all that money spent, all those lives lost, all that damage done... just to finally come to the conclusion that we were better off with Saddam around than without him.
