Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton Set for Clash on Gun Control

If more people were armed, Donald J. Trump says at rallies, mass shootings like those in Paris and San Bernardino, Calif., would be less deadly.

If you have a permit to carry a concealed weapon, he wants to make it valid in all 50 states, as simple as a driver’s license.

And Mr. Trump himself has a permit to carry a concealed handgun, which he is not shy about mentioning. “Somebody attacks me, oh, they’re gonna be shocked,” he warned last year.

Mr. Trump, who promises to “totally protect” the Second Amendment, is scheduled to speak on Friday at the annual convention of the National Rifle Association, on the cusp of a general election in which gun issues are expected to be more prominent than in recent presidential races. His address should signal how far he is likely to go in pressing gun rights to energize the Republican base in the fall campaign.

Whereas President Obama soft-pedaled gun control in both his national runs, Hillary Clinton, the likely Democratic nominee, is signaling a greater appetite to clash with Mr. Trump on the issue.

In a Twitter message last week, Mrs. Clinton said that Mr. Trump, the presumptive Republican nominee, would force schools “to allow guns in classrooms on his first day in office.”(continued)

Amendment “rules enforcement” changes from state to state? Always seemed unconstitutional to me.


On the contrary, the state should have control over everything to do with government. The only authority the federal government should have is the defense of this country. That’s the way it was intended. The states have abdicated their responsibility under the Constitution and the fed overreached.

Au contraire. Govt is to protect the Rights and Liberty of We the People (those whom CREATED govt). Feds have defense of Country (no less than a State their own borders).

NEITHER entity have done the job they were created to do; yet strive to do the opposite.

IMO, Trump doesn’t go far enough; but he’s the ONLY one in (my) memory that even talks the talk (we’ll see about the walk).

unconstitutional is unconstitutional. Rights don’t require a license.

I don’t know what copy of the Constitution you are reading.

To ensure the preservation of liberty, the U.S. Constitution granted the new federal government with just a small list of specific governmental powers, and that all other powers would be reserved to the individual States.

If you thumb through a copy of the Constitution the first thing you will notice is it isn’t very long. The second thing you will notice is how few powers it grants the federal government (borrow money, regulate commerce with foreign nations and between States, immigration, bankruptcy law, coin money, post offices, patents, punish piracy on the high seas, declare war, raise an army, maintain a navy). And it was only allowed to collect taxes for executing these few powers.

I think we’re both on the same page here, FRiend.

“We the People of the United States, in Order to form a more perfect Union, establish Justice, insure domestic Tranquility, provide for the common defence, promote the general Welfare, and secure the Blessings of Liberty to ourselves and our Posterity, do ordain and establish this Constitution for the United States of America.”

HOW to ATTEMPT to do so is specifically laid out in said Constitution: if not the Republic experiment not failed.

I contend the States did not merely abdicate their responsibility, they were complicit in the coup.

Just look at those that were elected over the last 100 years (let’s skip the debate on Lincoln for now), each progressivly MORE Socialist: Teddy, Wilson, FDR, LBJ, Nixon...

So much so, you can’t rightly fart in public w/out needing a $50 ‘permit’ (adjusted for inflation, of course).

DT, for all his warts, is the ONLY one (in my memory) that is talking something aside of lip-service (protecting our borders, protecting the Citizens, 2nd A.)
