CAIRO (AP) The latest news on EgyptAir Flight 804 from Paris to Cairo, carrying 66 people, which Egyptian officials say crashed early Thursday into the Mediterranean Sea off the Greek island of Crete (all times local):
8:55 p.m.
A senior Greek air safety official says the debris found so far in the Mediterranean Sea does not belong to an aircraft.

Then what exactly did the debris come from? One would think they’d know exactly where it went down.
Neither flightradar24.com nor flightaware.com shows the flight data.
At least when I looked for it earlier today.
btw... try out the 3D view in flightradar24... it doesn’t work well but is way cool.
This is freakish. I have been concerned about this for hours - as soon as it was first light, they should have found where the plane went down. They have all the coordinates, the radar, etc.
Starting to sound like Malaysia MH-370 all over again.
Yeah, something is amiss. Not plane debris is starting to gain traction.
Yes, especially since it supposedly blew up at 37000 feet. It would be a large area of multi-colored debris. One thing- I wonder if they have enough planes & men to search for it?
“This is not the debris you are looking for”
Spontaneous fuel tank explosion
Maybe a refugee vessel gone down on the way to Greece?
Ban ALL muslims from the flight lines , hangers , food and ac cleaning teams
It is a major disaster, and all the bordering countries have lots of sea vessels, esp Greece. I just can’t make this out.
CNN is reporting that EgyptAir says they have found the wreckage.
Probably a shipping container.
Never mind; CNN just caught up. How strange and also sad for the families.
Let me see if I have this straight. A plane crashes into the sea. Authorities go to the crash site. Debris is found. The debris is not from the downed aircraft. This is bizarre. If the debris isn’t from the downed aircraft what is is from?
Egypt has retracted. Debris is not from their plane.

“If the debris isnt from the downed aircraft what is it from?”
It’s the Med. There’s five thousand years of debris to choose from, they’ll find the right bits eventually.
There is likely a lot of flotsom and jetsom from fishing boats and cruise ships.
I wonder if any Naval vessels were in the Eastern Med and are willing to release their records of what they were tracking. I also would not be surprised to find out that military forces on Crete are double checking their inventory of SAMs to ensure they did not shoot the plane down.
