The Republican Partys attempt to treat Donald Trump as a normal political candidate would be laughable were it not so perilous to the republic. If only he would mouth the partys conservative principles, all would be well.
But of course the entire Trump phenomenon has nothing to do with policy or ideology. It has nothing to do with the Republican Party, either, except in its historic role as incubator of this singular threat to our democracy. Trump has transcended the party that produced him. His growing army of supporters no longer cares about the party. Because it did not immediately and fully embrace Trump, because a dwindling number of its political and intellectual leaders still resist him, the party is regarded with suspicion and even hostility by his followers. Their allegiance is to him and him alone.

Cuckservative says what...? ;)
This is simply one more example of lies by the MSM. People are sick to death of the elites calling anyone who speaks the truth a racist, fascist, etc.
The author is lying scum. He should be treated that way.
Kagan’s a longtime Neocon globalist pissed about Trump’s America-1st foreign policy.
Weren’t the establishment types calling Trump supporters ignorant, stupid racist fools a few weeks ago?
The same could be said for the GOP. It escapes the author that this is the reason we are where we are.
“His growing army of supporters no longer cares about the party.”
If the oh-so-sacred party had done its job over the last few decades instead of going along to get along with the
Dems and their agenda at almost every turn, Trump would have no following.
I suppose it would be redundant at this point to note that, as a PNAC founder, Kagan is a real-deal genuine 100% Angus beef Fascist.
The real fascism can be found on nearly every college campus controlled by liberals.
Once agains the pot and the kettle.
Wow, they are coming unglued and its only May.
Fascism came when the CIA and Dulles murdered JFK in Americas coup. It came when BLM was created as paid street enforcers for the oligarchy. It came when Christians started being supressed by government action. It came when Obama used the IRS to suppress purely peaceful political opponents.
It came when Bush let the NSA become an internal spying agency and illegally collect all our communication. It came when companies like GE, Tesla, and the banks etc began a partnership with government.
It began with the words “too big to fail”. An anathema to capitalism and America. But words right at home with Fascism.
FU Wapo.

Caring about a “party”. Now where have I heard the party exalted above all else?
No fascism comes from having a narcissistic delusional commander-in-chief who lives in a Shell, insulated and protected by a compliant media. who signs presidential decrees with the Twist of his pen thinking he has created laws. that is fascism.
You have to remember the Post is the local paper of the greater DC metro area, not a national news paper per say. They are afraid of Trump and the Post is playing into those local fears to make money.
The thing, to the extent there is any validity, however slight, in some of the observations, it was and is a lot more true for the Obama phenomenon.
And Bernie’s people too.
The left are a lot more fascist Brownshirt than anything Trump supporters have done.
They shut people down regularly in all manner of street thuggishness to abuse of power or authority.
What an idiotic a$$hat. Fascism has already come to america. As the central europeans embraced the fascism carried by pseudo-militaristic thugs in black shirts, spouting genetic tribalism, and enshrining mystical symbols, our form befitted our culture. Our fascism was ushered in with armies of attorneys in armani suits carrying high end briefcases filled with orders, injunctions, and rulings issued by the black robe wearing high priests of their power crazed and arrogant order.
“supporters no longer cares about the party”
No kidding? The ‘party’ deserted us years ago!
Exactly right, Obama’s followers are in it for cult of personality and will defend anything he does. I support Trump because he’s campaigned on putting America and Americans first. If he abandons that, I’ll have no problem abandoning him.
