[dcquiz] During the Pen Literary Awards Gala in New York City Monday night, the author of the “Harry Potter” novels talked about how the Republican presidential candidate has exercised his freedom of speech. (RELATED: Johnny Depp: Donald Trump Will Be The Last U.S. President)

“I find almost everything that Mr. Trump says objectionable,” Rowling said. “I consider him offensive and bigoted. But, he has my full support to come to my country and be offensive and bigoted there.”

“His freedom to speak protects my freedom to call him a bigot,” she added. “His freedom guarantees mine.”

Exactly. She makes those nasty comments about Trump because it is the “in-thing” in her left-wing circle.

AHA! The species still exists - the intellectually-consistent liberal - which all had thought to have been hunted down to extinction.

Seriously, I can remember several of my (extremely liberal) teachers in the mid- and late-70s saying words to the effect of, “I will defend to the death your right to be wrong.” Good and honest of them - they realize that their rights and ours are intertwined, despite the fact that we disagree with each other.

If only all of the Left was like this - the world would be a lot better. However, most of the Left is straight out totalitarian - they are not merely interested in winning a particular election or political fight, they are interested in completely dominating everyone’s words, deeds and thoughts.

The first one was cute but bored me after a while and the rest of that series was overkill.

Not bad - I'm not sure if Rowling knows what she means when she uses the term "bigot" in this context. But for a lot of Europeans, border control is bigotry ipso facto and in need of no further consideration. They're paying for that happy illusion now. Nevertheless, the principle that one set of rules for all guarantees one set of rights for all is an old and honored axiom of Western politics and one that the Left openly disdains as antithetical to social engineering. She may come around yet.

J.K. Rowling does have a sense of what is evil...

So does the Devil, the enemy of each human's soul.

I like Rowling, but you’re right, her earlier works (when the editor had more power than she did) were clearly far superior to her later works. Had she started with the level of writing present in Book 7 of the HP series, it would have been a very short writing career indeed!

Politically ignorant people like Rowling are subject to being duped by the media because they do not look beyond the headlines. They have no clue what Trump is really about.

Rowling has a pretty good idea. She's chosen her side. She outed Dumbledore as a homosexual (in a speech after all the books were finished and had sold millions) for a reason. Trump is against globalism and open borders. If you know the books for House Elves read immigrants. It's the same old liberal story, any exclusion from anyplace or anything is hateful and bigoted, therefore all seven billion people have a right to move to any country they'd like.

It's insane but it's the prevailing view among Oxford educated traitors like Rowling.

Trump might turn Hogwarts Academy into the clubhouse for his latest creation, the Harry Potter Links.

I haven’t read any of her books, only saw part of one movie. I did see a short clip of part of t his earlier today, and loved it.

I may not care for her political or ideological views, but that’s her business. The viewpoint she brings up here is excellent. Too many people are trying to shut down anyone who speaks up for Trump, violence at his rallies, pinheads on TV coming up with all kinds of silliness to try and discredit everything he says and does...

It’s great to see someone who disagrees with Trump come out with a statement like this. What she said is what freedom of speech is all about.

“His freedom to speak protects my freedom to call him a bigot”

OK not exactly right, his freedom to speak is the same as her right to call him a bigot. His 2nd amendment freedom to own a weapon protects her right to call him a bigot. But I don’t expect a Brit to have a comprehensive grip on American Constitutional Rights.

I just wish all the liberal pinheads in politics would realize what she apparently sees and agrees with. I don’t care what her books say, she can make her fantasy world in those books whatever she wants it to be, I see no reason it should carry over into her real life or political views. But I do like her view of our 1st Amendment...

She can call Trump a bigot all she wants to, even if he’s not, that’s her business, at least she knows WHY she can say it. And supports Trump anyway...can’t beat that with a stick. I love it. You go girl!
