Way back in the 60s, a Texas buddy of LBJ, Billy Sol Estes, was running a con. He borrowed millions using non-existent fertilizer tanks as collateral. A prominent figure in the case was found dead, shot in the head with a bolt-action rifle. The medical examiner ruled suicide.
I remember Billy Sol Estes.....
That witness in the Estes case fosterized himself in a pasture with 5 shots from a bolt action 22 that he did not own.
There was also a guy in the Odessa area who “accidentally” shot himself in the country by a fenceline one night, again with a 22 rifle he did not own.
That was in the same general time frame.
