They are NOT gay. It was a record company who wanted to use a very unflattering photo for an article.
Does anyone remember what happened to Ann and Nancy Wilson when a certain photo was used for an article? Some in the press called them lesbians.. In turn they wrote “Barricuda” and had a strong hatred for the press since then.
Hall and Oates were one of the last great comedy teams (or so I heard)

What their record company did to Ann and Nancy Wilson was worse than even suggesting that they were lesbians (which they are not), it implied they were incestuous with each other (which they werent).
In 1977 Mushroom ran a full-page advertisement in Rolling Stone magazine showing the bare-shouldered Wilson sisters (as on the "Dreamboat Annie" album cover) with the suggestive caption, "It was only our first time!". When a reporter suggested, backstage after a live appearance, that the sisters were sex partners, the infuriated Ann returned to her hotel room and began writing the lyrics to "Barracuda". Heart broke its contract with Mushroom and signed a contract with CBS subsidiary Portrait Records, resulting in a prolonged legal battle with Siegel.
