Yes, we have free trade between states. That is one of the major reasons the US became economically successful.
My sincere apologies, somehow whenever I say things about this stuff that don't sit well with others on the FR I end up stepping on toes and getting in trouble. Looks like I need to take a break for a while and maybe I can come up w/ a better way of expressing my point of view.

Applied research to me means spending resources on R&D to develop something that has or could have strong market demand. Advances in wireless communication, development of DOS, or development of robotic surgery are a few examples.
