This back-handed tribute is the only "Larry" song that I know of.

Hats Off to Larry--Del Shannon (1961)

Here is one for you:

I'm just a Sweet Transvestite - Rocky Horror Picture Show

You realize how much make-up it took to do that song?

;)

OK, here is a real make-up song:

"Have I the Right" The Honeycombs

You know the song: Come right Back, I just can't bear it..."

Watch it long enough to see the drummer!! (40 second mark)

Side note: She was married to one of the band members (vocalist I think). He was known to be gay and the marriage was one of convenience, IIRC

That single didn’t earn its Gold Record until 1985. It sold more as an oldie than it did when first released.

Julie London sings Monk's "'Round Midnight.

The heavy orchestration makes this version of the tune a bit schmaltzy. But you gotta love Julie London.

For purists, though, here's Thelonious Monk playing it. Not much of a a make-up song without the lyrics, but one of the best jazz tunes ever written, if you ask me.

Monk plays "'Round Midnight."

That’s a great version. A true live performance and not a lip sync.
